IXcellerate, a leading data center operator in Russia, and VseInstrumenti.ru, a Russian online hypermarket for home, garden, construction and repair goods, have signed a cooperation agreement. The company has rented ten standard racks in the IXcellerate MOS5 data center (Southern Campus). The guaranteed power of each rack is at least 6 kW.
The placement of server equipment in external facilities (colocation) has been a long-term strategy for VseInstrumenti.ru. The hypermarket’s IT infrastructure consists of over 200 physical and more than 2,000 virtual servers, storing around 800 terabytes of data.
This powerful resource supports the operation of a federal sales network (the company is present in every fourth city in Russia, occupies about 600,000 square meters of warehouse space, and has over 1,000 pickup points). To ensure uninterrupted operation of all IT systems and maximum service availability for customers, the company requires reliable data center partners capable of providing the necessary number of racks and supporting the retailer’s long-term growth.
Since 2021, VseInstrumenti.ru’s computing resources have been distributed among three sites within the metropolitan area; however, not all initially chosen data centers could provide the growth and expansion capabilities needed. In 2024, the hypermarket began searching for a new facility to migrate its IT infrastructure. The data center had to meet stringent requirements:
- SLA for service availability at Tier III level (no less than 99.98% in a 24/7/365 format). This is a critically important indicator for both the online and offline resources of the company.
- Proximity to other data centers located in the metropolitan area: the criteria is based on the low latency requirement. Customers should not notice any slowdown in the website performance even if one of the data centers has complete downtime.
- Presence of certain telecom operators and access to cloud services: the hypermarket uses both its own and public clouds to optimize performance, scalability and cost balance.
- Availability of the required space in the data hall, scalability options and clear commissioning plans for new capacities.
- Availability of remote/smart hands services and customer areas, round-the-clock access for the authorized personnel, high response rate of the duty shift, as well as types of PDUs used and cabinet dimensions.
Following the tender, IXcellerate was chosen as the operator that could guarantee compliance with all requirements at an optimal price offer.
“The demand for quality service in the data center market significantly exceeds supply, and finding a data center that can not only provide the required number of racks but also support long-term business scaling is a non-trivial task. We prefer to expand within an existing data center rather than ‘bounce’ from site to site, and IXcellerate provided us with that opportunity. In addition to digital growth, we share a common value with IXcellerate: a focus on customer happiness. We are also pleased with the service level — response speed and ease of interaction through the client portal”.
Dmitry Deev, Head of IT Infrastructure and Services at VseInstrumenti.ru
“We understand how important it is for digital businesses to grow without external boundaries, and we provide our clients the opportunity of scaling and IT infrastructure growth for many years to come. The planned capacity of MOS5 data center exceeds 4,500 rack spaces, and new phases will be launched this year and next. And this is just one of the facilities in the IXcellerate ecosystem. Our development plans remain unchanged: the construction and launch of new sites are proceeding according to schedule”.
